Private Pastry Class: The Art of Pastel de Nata
Indulge in a private Pastel de Nata cooking class and create a delicious memory of your time in Porto. Under the guidance of a skilled local chef, you’ll dive into the art of crafting Portugal’s most iconic dessert as you hear about its cultural significance. From rolling the dough to caramelizing the top, you’ll learn the secret techniques behind the flaky pastry and smooth custard that make it so beloved.

Highlights of Lisbon & Douro Valley
Activity Level: Moderate. Explore vibrant Lisbon and the stunning Douro Valley on this immersive 11-day journey through the history, flavours and landscapes of Portugal.
Day 1
Depart Toronto or Winnipeg for your overnight flight to Lisbon.
Day 2
Lisbon - Arrive in Lisbon and meet your local tour director. Transfer to your hotel and enjoy a welcome dinner. (D)
Day 3
Lisbon - Enjoy a guided half-day tour of Lisbon. Visit Rossio Square, the Alfama district, Lisbon Cathedral and St. George’s Castle. See Jeronimos Monastery and Belem Tower, both UNESCO World Heritage sites. Remainder of day at leisure. (B)
Day 4
Lisbon - Take a scenic coastal drive past Estoril, Casino Estoril and Hotel Palacio. Visit Cascais and Cabo da Roca, then stop in Sintra to tour the Pena Palace. Return to Lisbon with your evening at leisure. (B/L)
Day 5
Lisbon – Travel to Évora, a UNESCO World Heritage site, to explore the city’s historic centre and visit the 16th-century Chapel of Bones. Remainder of day in Lisbon at leisure. (B)
Day 6
Porto – Transfer from Lisbon to Porto with a stop in Coimbra for a tour of this historic city known for its UNESCO-designated university. (B)
Day 7
Porto – Roll up your sleeves and enjoy a private Pastel de Nata cooking class with a local chef as your Extraordinary Experience. (B/T)
Day 8
Porto – Embark on a full-day tour of the Douro Valley. Visit winery estates, enjoy tastings and have lunch while taking in the views between Peso da Régua and Pinhão. (B/T/L)
Day 9
Porto – Enjoy a full-day tour of Braga and UNESCO-listed Guimarães. Explore Guimarães Castle, the Palace of the Dukes of Braganza and Braga Cathedral. (B/L)
Day 10
Porto – Take a half-day tour of Porto’s UNESCO–designated historic centre, including Porto Cathedral. Stroll through Batalha Square and along Santa Catarina Street. End your journey with a farewell dinner. (B/D)
Day 11
Transfer to the airport for your return flight to Toronto or Winnipeg. (B)

Extraordinary Explorations vacations are organized and booked by CAA Travel (South Central Ontario) Inc. and CAA Manitoba (“CAA Travel”) on behalf of CAA Club Group (o/a CAA South Central Ontario and CAA Manitoba). In the event of an increase in any of the cost factors, CAA Travel reserves the right to increase the price whereby the provisions of the Travel Industry Act shall prevail. CAA Extraordinary Explorations packages are 100% non-refundable at final payment. CAA Travel service fee for cancellation prior to final payment varies by program. CAA Travel reserves the right to cancel or reschedule any tour departure in accordance with operating requirements (minimum number of participants) or circumstances beyond its control. Air schedules with some tours are not available at press time and may include several connections or forced overnight at passenger’s expense. CAA Travel strongly recommends the purchase of trip cancellation and emergency travel and emergency medical insurance at the time of booking.
Please note: Participants must be able to embark and disembark cruise ships and coaches without assistance as well as have a good level of mobility for walking tours in destinations where stairs and traditional cobblestone streets can be challenging. International transportation vehicles and facilities may not meet accessibility standards.

Lisbon
Begin the day with a guided half-day tour of Lisbon, the city of seven hills. You’ll visit the heart of the city, Rossio Square and spend some time in Alfama’s old quarter. Here you’ll see the towering Lisbon Cathedral, dating back to the 12th century, and admire views of St. George’s Castle. In Belem stroll through the city’s monumental district and see Jeronimos Monastery and Belem Tower, both UNESCO World Heritage sites. Remainder of your day at leisure. (B)
Day 4
Lisbon
Take a scenic coastal drive today, passing Estoril, Casino Estoril and Hotel Palacio. You’ll visit Cascais, a small fishing village along the coast, then Cabo da Roca, the westernmost point of continental Europe. Finish the day with a stop in Sintra to tour the Pena Palace. Return to Lisbon with your evening at leisure. (B/L)

Lisbon
Travel to remarkable Évora, a UNESCO World Heritage site rising from the Alentejo plains. Explore the city’s historic centre, surrounded by ancient walls and step back to Moorish times. Visit the 16th-century Chapel of Bones before returning to Lisbon with the rest of your day at leisure. (B)

Porto
Transfer from Lisbon to Porto with a stop in Coimbra for a tour of this historic city known for its UNESCO-designated university. (B)

Porto
Enjoy your Extraordinary Experience: a private Pastel de Nata cooking class. Meet with a local chef to learn how to make Portugal’s beloved custard tart. Get hands-on experience making the sweet treat from scratch as you learn the history behind the custard tart and savour your creations. (B/T)
Day 8
Porto
Embark on a full-day tour of the Douro Valley, known for its picturesque valleys and world-renowned wines. Visit winery estates, enjoy tastings and have lunch while taking in the views between Peso da Régua and Pinhão. (B/T/L)
Day 9
Porto
Today, enjoy a full-day tour of Braga and UNESCO-listed Guimarães, two of Portugal’s oldest cities dating back to the Roman Empire. Explore top attractions, including Guimarães Castle, the Palace of the Dukes of Braganza and Braga Cathedral. Immerse yourself in centuries of rich Portuguese culture and history before returning to Porto. (B/L)

Porto
Take a half-day tour of Porto’s UNESCO–designated historic centre. Admire the 18th-century Porto Cathedral and enjoy views over the Douro River. Stroll through Batalha Square and along Santa Catarina Street for some last-minute shopping, with the rest of your day at leisure. End your journey with a farewell dinner. (B/D)
