Suðureyri Seafood Walking Tour and Tasting
Get a true taste of local living with a delicious walking tour of an authentic Icelandic fishing village. Iceland’s Wild Westfjords
Activity Level: Moderate. Experience 10 days of the breathtaking splendour of Iceland, from the majestic Westfjords to the hospitality and heritage of authentic village life.
Day 1
Depart Toronto or Winnipeg on your overnight flight to Reykjavík.
Day 2
Reykjavík – Upon arrival, meet your tour director, have breakfast then check in to your hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure until your welcome dinner. (B/D)
Day 3
Patreksfjörður – The first stop is Grábrók, a 3,400-year-old volcanic crater with a 360-degree view of the valley. Continue to Eiríksstaðir to see a replica of a Viking longhouse. Stop at Þingmannaá Waterfall. (B/D)
Day 4
Patreksfjörður – Begin the day at Rauðasandur’s famous red-coloured beach. Visit Hnjótur Folk Museum and Látrabjarg, one of Europe’s highest seabird cliffs and Iceland's westernmost point. See Iceland's oldest steel shipwreck, the Garðar. (B/D)
Day 5
Ísafjörður – Admire the Dynjandi waterfall, then continue to Önundarfjörður. Visit Flateyri and stop at Gamla bókabúðin, a bookstore operating since 1914. Arrive in Ísafjörður for the next two nights. (B/D)
Day 6
Ísafjörður – Visit Bolafjall Mountain and learn about life in 19th century Iceland at the Ósvör Maritime Museum. Drive to Suðureyri for your Extraordinary Experience seafood tour. The afternoon is at leisure. (B/T/D)
Day 7
Búðardalur – Travel along the fjords of Ísafjarðardjúp, then visit the Saltverk factory in Reykjanes. Stop at the picturesque village of Hólmavík and its Museum of Icelandic Sorcery and Witchcraft. Travel to the remote Vogur Country Lodge in West Iceland. (B/D)
Day 8
Reykjavík – Start the day at Hraunfossar, known as “the lava waterfalls”. Visit an Icelandic horse farm before you head back to Reykjavík to explore its iconic landmarks. (B)
Day 9
Reykjavík – After breakfast depart for the Sky Lagoon thermal spa to relax and enjoy lunch. The rest of the day is at leisure until your farewell dinner. (B/L/D)
Day 10
Transfer from the hotel to the airport for your return flight to Toronto or Winnipeg. (B)

Extraordinary Explorations vacations are organized and booked by CAA Travel (South Central Ontario) Inc. and CAA Manitoba (“CAA Travel”) on behalf of CAA Club Group (o/a CAA South Central Ontario and CAA Manitoba). In the event of an increase in any of the cost factors, CAA Travel reserves the right to increase the price whereby the provisions of the Travel Industry Act shall prevail. CAA Extraordinary Explorations packages are 100% non-refundable at final payment. CAA Travel service fee for cancellation prior to final payment varies by program. CAA Travel reserves the right to cancel or re-schedule any tour departure in accordance with operating requirements (minimum number of participants) or circumstances beyond its control. Air schedules with some tours are not available at press time and may include several connections or forced overnight at passenger’s expense. Please note: Participants must be able to embark and disembark cruise ships and coaches without assistance as well as have a good level of mobility for walking tours in destinations where stairs and traditional cobblestone streets can be challenging. International transportation vehicles and facilities may not meet accessibility standards.

Day 2
Reykjavík
Upon arrival, meet your tour director and transfer to the Viking World for breakfast before checking in to your hotel. Balance of your day at leisure until your welcome dinner. (B/D)
Day 3
Patreksfjörður
The first stop is Grábrók, a 3,400-year-old volcanic crater with a 360-degree view of the entire valley. Continue to Eiríksstaðir, once home to world-renowned Viking explorers. In a replica of their longhouse and living museum, you’ll learn how Vikings lived as well as Icelandic history and folklore. Stop at the first of many charming waterfalls in the Westfjords, Þingmannaá Waterfall. Your home for the next two nights will be Patreksfjörður, a quaint fishing village offering scenic view over the fjord and the Greenland Sea. (B/D)
Day 4
Patreksfjörður
Begin the day at one of Iceland’s most beautiful beaches, Rauðasandur, named for its stunning red-coloured sand. Visit Hnjótur Folk Museum, a perfect introduction to daily life in the Westfjords. Continue to Látrabjarg, one of Europe’s highest seabird cliffs and Iceland's westernmost point, with bird colonies such as puffins, razorbills, and guillemots that stretch as far as the eye can see. On your journey today you’ll also see the shipwreck Garðar, Iceland's oldest steel ship. In the evening head back to Patreksfjörður for a well-deserved rest. (B/D)
Day 5
Ísafjörður
Today’s journey begins at Dynjandi waterfall, known for its tiered structure which creates an ethereal stream of small cascades. Continue to the Önundarfjörður pier, situated on a stunning golden beach with panoramic views of the fjord. Visit the village of Flateyri and stop at Gamla bókabúðin, or “The Old Bookstore”, a charming store filled with unique Icelandic souvenirs that has been operating since 1914. Learn more about the history of Flateyri and the devastating avalanche in 1995 as you venture out to the avalanche protection fences. In the afternoon, arrive in Ísafjörður, the largest town in the Westfjords, your resting spot for the next two nights. (B/D)
Day 6
Ísafjörður
This morning venture to the 640-meter-high mountain of Bolafjall, which has a steel viewing platform that juts over the cliff with staggering view of the sea and nearby fjords. Visit the restored fishing hut at Ósvör Maritime Museum to learn about the challenging life in isolated fishing villages in the 19th century. Afterwards, drive to the village of Suðureyri for a walking tour to savour delicious local seafood and learn about Iceland's rich fishing heritage for your Extraordinary Experience. Day 7
Búðardalur
Travel along the fjords of Ísafjarðardjúp to take in the incredible views and keep an eye out for whales. Visit the Saltverk factory in Reykjanes and learn about the salt manufacturing, a process which is 100% powered by geothermal energy. Your next stop takes you to the picturesque village of Hólmavík and its Museum of Icelandic Sorcery and Witchcraft. Explore its vast collection of artifacts such as ancient grimoires, ritual objects and the remarkable Icelandic magical staves which were believed to possess protective and magical powers. After an exciting day of discoveries, travel to the remote Vogur Country Lodge in West Iceland. This overnight location is a truly peaceful and beautiful place close to Breiðafjörður Bay. (B/D)
Day 8
Reykjavík
Today travel to Hraunfossar, or “the lava waterfalls”, which are fed by a glacial river and appear to emanate from the rocks. Next, stop at a horse farm to meet one of Iceland’s fluffiest and friendliest natives, the Icelandic horse. Head back to Reykjavík to explore the capital, learning about its history and viewing landmarks such as Hallgrímskirkja, the largest church in Iceland, the Nordic House and the National Museum. Check out the charming harbor to see colourful fishing vessels, the beautiful mountain backdrop and the spectacular Harpa concert hall. (B)
Day 9
Reykjavík
After breakfast depart to the Sky Lagoon, a thermal spa inspired by Icelandic nature and culture. Enjoy lunch at the Sky Lagoon’s Sky Café with the rest of the day is at leisure until your farewell dinner. (B/L/D)
Day 10
Transfer from the hotel to the airport for your return flight to Toronto or Winnipeg. (B)
