An Afternoon at the Incredible Icehotel
Experience the epitome of Lapland hospitality while surrounded by ice and snow at the original and world-famous Icehotel, located in Kiruna, Sweden. Each year since 1989, this winter hotel is carefully designed and handcrafted in partnership with artists around the world. Wander the property and admire the ice sculptures, then enjoy a drink at the Ice Bar. It’s an unforgettable experience 200 km north of the Arctic Circle.

Scandinavia Northern Lights
Activity Level: Active. Embark on an unforgettable 10-day Arctic adventure to chase the northern lights and immerse yourself in the best of Scandinavian culture.
Day 1
Depart from Toronto or Winnipeg on your overnight flight to Helsinki.
Day 2
Helsinki – Arrive in Helsinki, the capital and creative hub of Finland. Transfer to your hotel, enjoy a Finnish sauna or a pool dip and join the tour director for a welcome dinner, setting the tone for your Scandinavian adventure. (D)
Day 3
Saariselkä – Take a morning flight to Ivalo. Drive to Saariselkä to explore Finland’s winter landscape and Sámi culture. Enjoy the chance to witness the aurora borealis after dinner. (B/D)
Day 4
Saariselkä – Embrace winter activities and ‘hunt’ for the northern lights with a local expert. (B)
Day 5
Rovaniemi – Travel south to Rovaniemi, Santa Claus’s hometown. Explore Santa’s post office and get up close and personal with Rudolph’s real reindeer friends. (B/D)
Day 6
Luleå – Head to Sweden to visit the Gammelstad church village, UNESCO-listed for its 424 wooden houses built around an early 15th century stone church. Continue to Luleå, the largest city in Swedish Lapland. Optionally, enjoy dinner in a stunning lakeside lodge. (B)
Day 7
Kiruna – Visit Jokkmokk, a historic meeting place for the Indigenous Sámi people and learn about their life at the Ájtte Museum. Continue to Kiruna for a unique dinner experience with a Sámi family including traditional food and joiks. (B/D)
Day 8
Kiruna – Free day to explore Kiruna or opt for a husky safari. In the afternoon, stop by the Icehotel for a drink before trying to catch a glimpse of the northern lights this evening. (B)
Day 9
Stockholm – Fly to Stockholm this morning for a sightseeing tour of the city built on 14 islands. Conclude your Lapland with a farewell dinner in the Old Town. (B/D)
Day 10
Transfer to the airport for your return flight to Toronto or Winnipeg. (B)

Extraordinary Explorations vacations are organized and booked by CAA Travel (South Central Ontario) Inc. and CAA Manitoba (“CAA Travel”) on behalf of CAA Club Group (o/a CAA South Central Ontario and CAA Manitoba). Please note: Participants must be able to embark and disembark cruise ships and coaches without assistance as well as have a good level of mobility for walking tours in destinations where stairs and traditional cobblestone streets can be challenging. International transportation vehicles and facilities may not meet accessibility standards.

Helsinki
The capital of Finland and a hub for creativity and design, Helsinki is where you’ll begin your hunt for the mystical northern lights. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel with time to enjoy a typical Finnish sauna or dip in the pool before joining your tour director for tonight’s welcome dinner, setting the tone for your epic Scandinavian adventure. Day 3
Saariselkä
This morning you’ll take a morning flight north to Ivalo, a village inside the Arctic Circle. From there it’s a short drive to Saariselkä to admire Finland's forest-filled winter landscape and learn about the Sámi way of life. Tonight, if the sky is clear, you will have your first opportunity to marvel at the 'dancing lights' of the aurora borealis after dinner at our hotel. (B/D)
Day 4
Saariselkä
Today is your chance to embrace winter activities and perhaps ride a snowmobile, go snow shoeing or build a snowman. This evening, you'll 'hunt' for the northern lights with a local expert who will explain this extraordinary phenomenon and maximise your chance of a sighting. (B)
Day 5
Rovaniemi
Travel south to Rovaniemi, the official hometown of Santa Claus, where you'll discover the magic of Christmas and dive into culture at Santa’s official post office. Send a letter to your loved ones or snap a selfie at the edge of the Arctic Circle before continuing to visit Rudolph’s real reindeer friends. Be sure to bundle up for this unique opportunity to get up close and personal with these incredible Arctic creatures. (B/D)
Day 6
Luleå
Bid farewell to Finland as you head for Sweden. Today you’ll visit the unique church village of Gammelstad, UNESCO-listed for its 424 wooden houses built around an early 15th century stone church, providing visitors with a glimpse at what such a village would have looked like in northern Scandinavia several centuries ago. Continue to Luleå, the largest city in Swedish Lapland. Tonight, you’ll have the option to experience a dinner of locally sourced Nordic specialties in a stunning lakeside lodge. (B)
Day 7
Kiruna
Venture north to Jokkmokk, a historic meeting place for the Indigenous Sámi people. Enjoy a guided tour through the Ájtte Museum to learn about their life and survival in the demanding northern climate. Continue north to Kiruna, where tonight you’ll connect with locals over a truly unique experience by joining members of a Sámi family for dinner, where they will explain the heritage of their traditional dishes and perform joiks, one of the oldest vocal traditions in Europe. Day 8
Kiruna
Today you have a free day to explore this Swedish mining centre, which is in the process of being relocated a few miles from its original location due to the growing size of the iron mine beneath its surface. You can join the unique Optional Experience of a husky safari, holding on tight as the eager dogs race across the snowy landscape. This exhilarating encounter with one of the most special canine breeds in the world is an experience you'll never forget. In the afternoon, visit the incredible Icehotel to marvel at the ice sculptures and have a drink at the Ice Bar. Tonight, be sure to take the last chance to catch a glimpse of the northern lights in this extraordinary Arctic environment. (B)
Day 9
Stockholm
This morning, fly to Sweden’s capital. Join a local specialist for a sightseeing tour of the city built on 14 islands that locals refer to as 'beauty on the water'. Tonight, your journey across Lapland in search of the mystical northern lights comes to an end with a walk through the cobbled streets of the Old Town and a memorable farewell dinner with new friends.
