Iceland’s landscapes may be the draw, but this 10-day tour also offers a deeper look at the people, traditions and everyday life shaped by the island’s rugged environment. Begin in Reykjavík, exploring museums, neighbourhoods and local cuisine before travelling through lava fields, glacier valleys and coastal fishing towns with an expert guide. Along the route, visits to geothermal bakeries, horse farms and small communities create a more personal connection to Icelandic life, while regional meals and geothermal pools offer time to relax and take in the scenery around you. From the Golden Circle to Diamond Beach, the journey combines Iceland’s iconic natural beauty with experiences rooted in local culture.

Taste Reykjavik Like a Local
Spend an evening exploring Reykjavík through its food scene with a local guide leading the way. Visit a mix of neighbourhood favourites, casual eateries and hidden gems while tasting traditional Icelandic dishes and regional specialties along the route. Alongside the food, you’ll hear stories about local traditions, everyday life and how Iceland’s unique landscape has shaped its cuisine. Land of Fire & Ice: An Iceland Discovery
Travel across Iceland over 10 days, taking in geothermal lagoons, glacier scenery, local food experiences and dramatic coastal landscapes.
Day 1
Depart Toronto or Winnipeg on your overnight flight to Keflavik.
Day 2
Reykjavik – Arrive, meet your English-speaking guide and go to the nearby Viking World for breakfast. Visit Árbæjarsafn Museum, an open-air museum showcasing Iceland’s history, then settle into your hotel before a welcome dinner. (B/D)
Day 3
Reykjavik – Explore Reykjavik on a guided city tour, including Perlan Museum. Lunch is at leisure, with the chance to try Iceland’s famous hot dogs. This evening, enjoy a foodie walking tour through downtown Reykjavik. (B/D)
Day 4
Reykjavik – Discover the Golden Circle, including UNESCO-listed Þingvellir National Park. Visit the Fontana Geothermal Bakery for lunch and traditional geothermal-baked bread. Later, witness the power of Gullfoss waterfall and the geothermal activity of Geysir. (B/L)
Day 5
Reykjavik – Visit an Icelandic horse stable and learn about this unique breed before touring a geothermal tomato greenhouse and enjoying lunch. End the day relaxing in the warm waters of the Secret Lagoon. (B/L)
Day 6
Stykkishólmur – Travel through the striking Snæfellsnes Peninsula, stopping at Kirkjufell mountain, Djúpalónssandur black pebble beach, Lóndrangar basalt cliffs, Arnarstapi coastal village and Snæfellsjökull National Park. Visit the black church Búðakirkja and Ytri Tunga beach. (B/D)
Day 7
Vik – Head to South Iceland, passing glaciers, volcanoes and waterfalls. Drive past Hekla and the glacier-volcano Eyjafjallajökull. Stops include Seljalandsfoss waterfall and Reynisfjara black-sand beach near Vík, known for its basalt columns, sea stacks and puffin colonies. (B/L)
Day 8
Vik – Travel east to Skaftafell National Park and Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, where blue icebergs drift across the glacial lake. Sail among the icebergs by amphibian boat and taste ancient glacial ice while keeping watch for seals and nearby Diamond Beach. (B/D)
Day 9
Hafnarfjörður – Visit Sólheimajökull glacier, Skógar Folk Museum, Skógafoss waterfall and the ancient Caves of Hella. This evening, enjoy a Viking-inspired farewell dinner at Fjörukráin with music and Norse traditions. (B/D)
Day 10
Following breakfast, transfer to the Keflavik International Airport for your return flight to Toronto or Winnipeg. (B)

Continue to Árbæjarsafn Museum, an open-air museum in Reykjavik featuring historic buildings and artifacts from Iceland’s past. After checking into the hotel, enjoy time to settle in before gathering for your welcome dinner. (B/D)

Reykjavik
Discover Reykjavik on a guided city tour, including a visit to Perlan, which sits above the city and offers panoramic harbour views. Inside the museum, explore fascinating exhibits including an ice cave and volcano experience. Lunch is at leisure, with the chance to try the Icelandic hot dog, a local favourite. For the full experience, order “eina með öllu, takk” (“one with everything”). This evening, enjoy your Extraordinary Experience, a foodie walking tour through downtown Reykjavik. (B/D)
Day 4
Reykjavik
Today’s exploration of the Golden Circle includes Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site where Europe’s oldest parliament was founded and the divide between the North American and European tectonic plates is clearly visible. Visit the Fontana Geothermal Bakery, where bread is baked in the steam-heated ground, before lunch. Later, witness the power of Gullfoss waterfall and the geothermal activity of Geysir, where Strokkur erupts every 5 to 10 minutes. (B/L)
Day 5
Reykjavik
Spend the morning at a local Icelandic horse stable learning about this unique breed, known for its five natural gaits and centuries of history in Iceland. Continue to a tomato greenhouse to see how crops are grown using geothermal heat before enjoying lunch on site. The day ends with time to relax in the naturally heated waters of the Secret Lagoon. Day 6
Stykkishólmur
The Snæfellsnes Peninsula offers a striking introduction to many of Iceland’s most iconic landscapes. Visit Kirkjufell mountain and nearby Kirkjufellsfoss waterfall before continuing to the black pebble beach of Djúpalónssandur, known for lava formations and shipwreck remnants. Stops along the route include the basalt cliffs of Lóndrangar, the coastal village of Arnarstapi and glacier-covered Snæfellsjökull National Park. On the southern coast of the peninsula, visit the black church Búðakirkja and Ytri Tunga beach, known for frequent seal sightings, before arriving in Stykkishólmur for the evening. (B/D)
Day 7
Vik
Travel through Borgarnes and the farmlands of South Iceland, passing glaciers, volcanoes and waterfalls along the way. Drive past Hekla and the glacier-volcano Eyjafjallajökull, which erupted in 2010. Stops today include lunch at Fjöruborðið Stokkseyri, Seljalandsfoss waterfall and Reynisfjara black-sand beach near Vík. At Reynisfjara, basalt columns and dramatic sea stacks rise from the shoreline, while puffins and seabirds may be spotted during the summer season. On clear days, views extend to the cliffs of Dyrhólaey. (B/L)
Day 8
Vik
Continue east toward Skaftafell National Park, where glaciers stretch across the surrounding mountains. At Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, luminous blue icebergs drift across the glacial lake formed by the retreating Breiðamerkurjökull glacier. Sail among the icebergs aboard an amphibian boat and taste ancient glacial ice while keeping watch for seals along the shoreline. Nearby, Diamond Beach sparkles with ice fragments scattered across the black volcanic sand. (B/D)
Day 9
Hafnarfjörður
Visit Sólheimajökull, an outlet glacier of the Mýrdalsjökull ice cap known for its striking layers of white, blue and black volcanic ash. A short walk leads to the growing glacier lagoon, offering visible evidence of Iceland’s changing landscape. Continue to Skógar Folk Museum, home to approximately 18,000 folk craft artifacts and historic turf-roofed buildings representing different periods of Icelandic history. Nearby, experience the force of Skógafoss waterfall before visiting the mysterious Caves of Hella, believed to predate the Nordic Viking settlement. This evening, gather for a farewell dinner at Fjörukráin featuring Viking-inspired entertainment, music and Norse traditions. (B/D)
